Thanks guys, I'll try that. I started doing it then realized I was on a different computer....

I'm trying to do the same on an Athlon X2 4400, using the latest build of Prime 95 with the -A1 switch. When I leave affinity checked running the torture test takes up 50% of each CPU's utilisation. If I uncheck affinity and select a processor it will run on that CPU, taking up 100% utilisation, but the second instance doesn't want to run on the second CPU.

Any ideas?

I finally found the answer elsewhere - it was memory related - don't run two copies of Blend, run In Place or Custom with 40% of total memory allocated to each CPU. If that is the case does the memory get as thoroughly tested or should I rely on Memtest 86 for that?

Tim, I would recommend setting torture test first to "blend" and then to "custom", finally set "memory to use (in MB)" to ~45% of your available free memory for each instance.

Hit the Start button.
Select Run...
type in cmd
When the window pops up type the following :
cd \ <return>
cd \Program Files\Prime95 <return>
Prime95 -A1 <return>

That should start the second copy.

I tried the -A1 switch just as it says but it tells me that it is an unsuported command.

The easiest way is to put prime95 in two different directories...

Default Is my 2 copies of Prime duplicating themselves?

I have a dual-core Athlon, and setup the second process using the -A1 switch. Everything appears to be working (each process seems to be using it's own core). However, I think they're both computing the same thing:

Output from both processes:

Mersenne number primality test program version 24.14
Starting P-1 factoring with B1=385000, B2=3176250
Chance of finding a factor is an estimated 4.89%
P-1 on M35850137 with B1=385000, Be=3176250
Using FFT length 2048K

Are they calculating the same thing and wasting time? Is this normal/expected output?

I don't have experience running two instances, but I think that as long as the numbers after the M, which is your Mersenne exponent, are different for the different cores, they're not duplicating work.

Default running two instances of Prime 95

How exactly do I start up a second instance of Prime95 with the -a1 switch - sorry if this is a real dumb question.
