Years ago, I tried to set up a permissions system on my dad's router where my torrent client only got the crumbs of the internet connection and went to the end of the line compared to everything else, but used everything it did get to full effect.
What is this concept called by the experts? Edit:Oops, didn't notice the New to GIMPs thing. I posted here because I didn't want to clutter the Lounge. Last fiddled with by jasong on 2013-12-08 at 07:39 |

My Orange BrightBox router classifies it as Traffic Mapping, under the Ouality of Service tab in Adv. Setup.

Ultimately, it doesn't matter, but I was referring to the strange fact that I can get more overall bandwidth if I'm willing to back off at any time, and would tend to be way worse off if I negotiated for guaranteed bandwidth.
Now that I think about it, I guess it similar to freemium concept, although my dad isn't making any profit off giving me bandwidth. It just seems like such a wonderfully strange concept deserves it's own name. |
