Hi,
I'm wondering if an X6 Phenom has the same L3 cache bandwidth as an X4 has. Any of you with such a CPU who can tell me what your BW is? Same with memory BW, although that depends on what your memory configuration is. On my own system, I get the same BW for memory (per core) as I get for L3, even though memory is faster than that. If need be, I can supply you with a C++ program that can make the measurement. I'd also like to know about any available measurement tools, including overclocking. AMD OverDrive doesn't run on my Phenom. I'd like to know what the value of the Northbridge clock is, and my BIOS doesn't show it or allow me to change it. If you are willing to keep in touch with me, I may have some other things I would want to know about an X6 vs. an X4. Thanks. Michael |

I'd appreciate it if someone can help Michael with his investigative benchmarks. He is providing me with useful insights into AMD architectures that might prove helpful to prime95 one day.

I have an X6 (1055T set in a good m/b with good memory) and will gladly run tests. PM me.

I have a 1055T and a Black Edition 555 (6mb l3 cache).
Both have stable overclocks at 3.4ghz and 3.6 ghz respectively. I have been waiting for an optimization that would take advantage of my BE555's huge cache. Hope you are working on that too! Let me know what I can do to help. Neo AtP |

Any of you people, or cats, who are interested, you could post the following numbers on this thread for your AMD CPU:
1. # of cores. 2. Phenom or Phenom II? 3. Northbridge clock multiplier (for a Phenom II, where you can change it). 4. CPU clock speed. 5. L3 cache bandwidth, and what tool did you use to measure it. I have attached some C++ code, suitable for Microsoft Visual Studio. You can run it from a command line and provide the name of an input file, or type in commands yourself at the prompts. Type '?' for help. To measure L3, type in "m 2 f 8 P t 10" to run the test 10 times. Also, please post info about any performance measurement tools for AMD. Thanks, Michael. |

I have two AMD Phenom x4 960T. One cannot be unlocked, but second is unlocked to X6 . Booth are clocked to 3.7 GHZ.
On x4 and x6 it was enough to just raise CPU core voltage and I am sure they can go above 4 GHZ without any problems: but for now: I am quite happy wit 3.7 GHz. I would like to help but since you attached source program, but not program itself, can you compile it? |
