hi,
I noticed it a lot already. Bugs in the apple calculator at my macbookpro. I have os/x 10.4.11 First how it goes correct. I type in manual by mouse: 10 Y^X 1.24 = 17..... Now when it goes wrong. I give in 2048^2 * 42 then take log of that, divided by 2048^2 and the log of that. This gives 1.245.... I store that with M+ Then i give in by hand 10 Y^X MR = 101 I give C to clear screen. Give in 10. to the power MR (1.245...) again 101 as answer. Maybe not calculate your mortgage with apple sirs! Regards, Vincent |

FWIW, it is easy to confuse a dumb and clever design.
-- Example! (in voice of Julius and Vincent from Pulp Fiction) In Win calc, try typing 2+3*5 => you will get 17 in scientific mode, but 25 in standard mode. Is that dumb? Not necessarily! In some (or most?) modes log button is treated as an immediate postfix to the number on the screen. This makes possible to do 5 * 3 <log> where log will be applied to 3 only. However, I have no Mac to test if this applies to your problem. ymmv. |

I loved having my result erased when I switched to scientific mode to get the log function in Win Calc!

Scientific mode has operator precedence by default??? Can't see that in Help. Since I don't trust non-RPN grouping, I've always used = and (), so never encountered that before.
