It's OK with me, I've been running Prime95 for some time on my computer, so I'm used to these longlasting computations.


One question about the factor4 program. I try to run Prime95 at the same time on my computer, but it gets almost no processortime at all, factor4 takes almost all of it. I have tried to lower priority on it, but it doesn't help. Is there some other way to do this than using the task manager? (other than using 2 computers )

You can try to raise Prime95 priority up to (say) 8. They should share a 50% of CPU time that way.

Hi, I read the operation billion website and would like to reserve the exponent 3321928171 so that I can factor it to 86 bits. I can have factor5 run at least 12 hours a day automatically. Thank you.

That should be a bit of waste of the CPU, since GPUs took over the TF process. Actual GPUs can raise that exponent to 86 bits from scratch in about 35 days. See for example here, the job was done with gtx580, which has half speed than modern GPUs when it comes to TF, but it runs two times faster for this exponent compared with yours, because the exponent is double. So, with a modern GPU you will get about the same time like I had for mine. The CPU will take way longer (how long? one year?). Those CPU cores-years-money could be better spent to run P95 on a ~80M exponent. But well, your goal, your money...

Seems as though the Billion Digit website is down at the moment. I'd love to jump in and start doing some TFing, but don't know where to find unreserved exponents. Also, can the work done with the billion digit candidates be reported to the main mersenne.org site? I know many of the exponent fields on the site won't accept numbers greater than 999,999,999. Correct. I planned to create a somewhat faster version, but then George, Ernst and Oliver offered factorization programs way faster than any optimization I could think of...
