Since a poll can't be added to this thread.

Simple poll.

When will the first 100,000,000 digit long prime number be found, any type, by anyone?

For the sake of things, assume that it can be verified within a reasonable time frame.

Posts by RD Silverman are very welcome in this thread.

Not necessarily. If it's a k*2^n+-1 with a large k, the exponent could be quite a bit smaller. If it's a completely different form, including k*b^n+c with a b>2, the exponent could be much smaller.

Well... sure, but with Mersenne primes occupying the top 8 slots, and no good algorithm for discovering large non-Mersenne primes, it seems likely that the first 100M would be Mersenne.

But even if not, knowing the Mersenne exponent equivalent is useful for comparison purposes. Obviously the exponent of a Mersenne prime need not correspond at all to the exponent of a prime of a different form.

Oh, I agree that it's very likely (unless some big new discovery comes out between now and it) the first 100M digit prime would be Mersenne, just pointing it out that it's not necessarily Mersenne.
