Default Official mass shooting of the day thread.

Canada now has a "mass shooting":

https://www.npr.org/2019/06/18/73359...ry-celebration

The United States has more than any other '1st world' nation.
New Zealand recently had one.
Norway had one a while back.
France has had more than one..

For debate about guns please see and use this thread:
https://www.mersenneforum.org/showthread.php?t=17562
This thread is only for reporting about mass shootings.
For the sake of the thread we shall define this as where one or more (connected or working together) non-police gunslinger shoots at least 3 individuals in short order and in a reasonable proximity (driving down the road and firing at people every 1/2 mile or 1 km doesn't make the grade.) Also, war, rebellion, freedom fighting, uprising, or other mass acts of a political nature (genocide) don't count.
Here is the basis that the Washington Post uses to define mass shooting: https://www.washingtonpost.com/graph...gs-in-america/
They are more strict (4 victim minimum vs 3, they also exclude conjunction with other crimes.

Default France ?!?! Colorado beats France

Yes, I know Colorado is not a country but it should be given a mention because it has 7, count 'em, 7 mass shootings all by itself:

The United States is in the lead.
New Zealand is a late entrant.
Norway is on the board.
France is in second place.

Nor about the millions killed each year by pollution? Personally, I think having a ranking for "shooters" is sick

Suppose this is some sort of therapy...agree with Paul, this is sick. Next level would be to classify in terms of shooting kids, adults, animals...

Basketball is a game, mass shootings definitely not.

Personally I think shooting people without legal cause is sick.

Countries have had different laws, over the years. I can think of crime passionnel

I now this thread is for logging mass shootings, but I can remember this happening in the UK: Dunblane Masacre I find it very upsetting.

Apparently my initial post had the wrong tone for this forum (even though I started the thread in the Soap Box). I was extremely busy the last few days and did not have time to log into the forum. When I saw the first replies before life got busy, I closed the thread, until the time I could address the situation.

The other thread referenced in the first post has debate and reporting of shootings. Often cogent debate gets overrun by the particulars a single event. I was hoping to allow for better discussion there and to increase the focus on individual shootings and shear quantity that often doesn't get noticed.

2 of our forumites have been trying to outdo each other in the daily history thread. If one of them could spare some of the energy that they apply over there and apply it here, we might realise just how many mass shootings there are.

I will leave it to the judgment of another mod whether to reopen this thread.

Ye right! I always knew it is a bug. When I was 6 and living with the grandparents during the summer, part of the chores was to "pick up the colorado bugs from the potato field"...
