Default Silent Letters Puzzle

I understand this forum is world wide and, hence, for many of you English is NOT your first language, so please don't be offended that this puzzle is looking for English words as answers......

The English language is peculiar in the way that it often uses letters unnecessarily. What I am referring to is the silent letters. See if you can find 26 words each of which has one of the silent letters from A to Z. Many have lots of answers and a few of the answers are more obscure, If fact, somewhat contrary to my opening statement, a few of the answers are words inherited from other languages, but that we still use in English.

For example:
A: boat (the letter A is silent in the word boat)

So, add "English Language " in front of "Letters" in the title so folks are alerted before getting here. :-)

It depends on how you pronounce it. Both are correct. (silent A or silent E)

petrw1, since you started this thread, I think you should be the judge of whether words like this (where a different letter is silent depending on which of the multiple correct pronunciations) count for both or neither (or something else).

But I think the king of silent letters is: cholmondely/cholmondeley (pronounced chumly)
