Default Why would a website claim I've made too many requests when I haven't been back for hours?

Phys.org has been randomly refusing me connections for weeks now, claiming I've made too many requests even after I've been gone for hours. Now, it would appear that my IP has been universally banned for the entire website.

I love the website, so if anyone has any idea what the issue is, please post here.

Your ISP hasn't recently started running a transparent proxy server of some kind has it?
Also, IPv4 or IPv6?

Tried clearing your browser cookies?

[I never let sites like this store 'em to begin with. FF preferences -> Privacy, uncheck 'accept cookies from sites', click 'Exceptions' widget, type URL of whichever sites (should be a small number, mainly ones where you use password access) have a legitimate reason to cookie-fy you into the resulting window.]

Another idea...
Do you have a browser extension or setting which prefetches content from links on a visited page?

I got my access back, so I figured out their facebook page and posted to that.

One possibility that I thought of is that someone at the phys.org website might be using torrent software and their router rules might be overly vague. So if they banned based on a certain number of contacts per hour, and don't pay attention where the badnwidth goes, that might explain it.
