Not sure France even existed back then.

(Just checked: it did.)
Since then you only wanted us for beaches and sunshine.

Edit: and now for the red wine…

I didn't actually.

It universally described as a Norman invasion, not a French one.

Wikipedia came to my rescue.

Yes, even in the good ol' USA it was called the "Norman conquest" in history classes when I went to school.

Even so, the context of your "We still haven't forgotten 1066 and all that" clearly indicates you were putting the onus on France, whose existence at the time you were therefore at least implicitly assuming.

The onus on the successor state.

The French are picking on the UK, the successor state to England.

I still find it amusing that a Portuguese guy is implicitly supporting accusations of perfidy and simultaneously advocating the unilateral violation of a treaty between his birth country and mine.

Some grudges go back a very long time.

Some English people still haven't forgotten the treatment of Boudicca, her daughters and the people she governed.

Current Brits are mongrels. I doubtless have Celtic, Scandinavian and continental European ancestry.

Anyway, your question might be thought offensive by many Brits of the Scottish, Welsh, Irish, Cornish and Manx persuasion.

I knew that there is a larger celtic heredity in Wales, Scotland and some other parts.
But as for the english people, as anglo-saxons I'ld take your ancestry to be mostly "germanic". That may be a harder offence, but no offence meant.

Not to think of ~4% Neanderthalian genes xD

Meanwhile, back in the real world...

UK ships prepare to leave Jersey after dispute over fishing rights
Quote:
The UK government said "the situation is resolved for now" but "we remain on standby" to assist Jersey.

French fishermen say their rights are unfairly restricted by licences issued under the Channel Island's new system.

Jersey's External Relations Minister Ian Gorst said discussions with the French crews had been "positive".
<snip>
As the boats pulled out of this harbour at 02:30 on Thursday morning, the fishermen were prepared for this 15-hour stand-off in the cold and rain.

This protest was their plan to get noticed and it worked.
