Intel Broadwell-E benchmarks are leaked on Taobao (a sort of Chinese eBay)
Intel Xeon E5-2698 v4 20C/40T 2.1GHz (with Turbo to max 3.5GHz?) 50MB L3 cache On a ASUS Z10PA-D8 server motherboard (2 sockets) Cinebench R15 2x Intel Xeon E5-2698 v4 (2.1GHz, 20C/40T, 50MB L3): 4,980 In comparison to the current top model for 2 sockets: 2x Intel Xeon E5-2699 v3 (2.3GHz, 18C/36T, 45MB L3): 4,523 For reference (1 socket) 1x Intel Core i7 5960X (3.0GHz, 8C16T, 20MB L3) 1.479 1x Intel Core i7 6700K (4.0GHz, 4C8T, 8MB L3): 885 The Intel Xeon E5-2699 is rumoured to come with a hefty 22 cores! But as with the previous top models, they are all power restrained. For LL they lack the necessary memory bandwidth to feed that amount of cores. |

On my dual 14-core system (E5-2697 v3) I can run a single worker with all 14 cores of one CPU and another 7-9 cores on the other CPU and still continue to get those slight bumps in performance. It only starts to tank once I have a total of 23+ cores. Would it actually do worse if 22 cores were all on one CPU and all fighting for the same quad-channel memory bus instead of using QPI to send info to the other socket which then has it's own mem bus for doing whatever? Not sure. It does help to have all 4 memory channels populated, I'm pretty sure of that. ![]() |
