Here's a proposal from LaurV, with slight adjustments:

Adjourn until past the holidays (January 2, 2014?).

We'll send our move 17 by PM to one or more mods (tell us who). Timestamp on PM will verify that we met the deadline (20 Dec 09:54 GMT, right?).

Mods then post our move 17 on January 2 (or whenever) in this thread, and next deadline starts from then. Mods' posting time on resumption day could be announced in advance so that the Toxic Gekkos will know when to watch for it and can start analysis promptly.

Okay? Resume on some day other than January 2?

Thanks. My personal response at the moment is to consult with team mates and get back to you about this as soon as possible.

I can hold the "envelope" with the sealed move until the mutually agreeable date for the teams, if the teams will so decide, no problem for me.

We are happy to do this although we would happily keep playing as well.
If we could time one of your moves for the week 13th-17th January that would be useful for me as I have exams that week.

Why don't you just play as usual, and if a team takes longer than 7 days, wait till past the holidays for a reminder. I don't see how a team gains an advantage by having 14 (or whatever) days for a move, instead of the regular 7 days.

Thank you. We'll send you the PM with the move. (You can forward it if you want someone else to have a copy.)

We could accoommodate that request by two different methods:

Method 1 puts the burden of replying exactly on seventh day (no sooner) on each team (for two weeks):
1) Resumption date January 4, when our 17th move will be revealed by Batalov,
Gekkos' 17th move deadline would be January 11.
Then if Gekkos don't post 17th move until that day (no earlier than January 11),
then Pirates' 18th move deadline would be January 18, and if we hold our posting until January 18 (no sooner), then Gekkos' 18th move deadline would be January 25.

Method 2 puts the burden of replying exactly on seventh day (no sooner) on Batalov (only for two weeks):
2) Or if Batalov will agree, both teams can send their moves by PM to him for two further weeks, and he:
posts Pirates' 17th move on January 4,
posts Gekkos' 17th move on January 11, and
posts Pirates' 18th move on January 18.

You may just have to take my word for it (or not if you prefer!), but extra time can be a significant advantage in this team chess play.

All very well thought out in my opinion.
I have no particular preference between method 1 and method 2, but our team captain, our other two team members, and of course our arbiter might have a preference.
