Hey gurus,
I was trying to install the most recent ATI drivers so that I could learn a bit more about GPU factoring, and for some reason during the install my computer crashed. It rebooted with onboard graphics, and Prime95 booted as well. I noticed that Prime95 was suddenly working on a P-1, which didn't make sense because it was very far on an LL. I panicked and did a system restore, which fixed the driver issue, but my Prime95 doesn't seem to have any progress with those LLs. What do I do? I tried looking for the results.txt or something in the Prime95 folder, but couldn't find a thing there, and it seemed to just be unextracted in my downloads folder anyways. Any ideas? |

Is the P-1 exponent you are getting the same exponent as the "91%" complete LL? It shouldn't, but...

No, I can confirm that it is not the same exponent. Since I can't find a results.txt (or even a worktodo.txt) I think I am encountering the bug where Windows does not write the files correctly to the directory, but I can't even find the directory. Is it possible that I just ran it from the Downloads without properly extracting it? I have rebooted my computer before though, and it kep working on the same exponent where it left off..
Pretty bummed out that I lose about 42 days of work :( |

There should be a bunch of files in the folder where the (unzipped) executable is. Among the files should be the exe, "worktodo.txt", "undoc.txt", "stess.txt", and perhaps some files like "p61xxxxxx", "p61xxxxxx.bu", "p61xxxxxx.bu2", or perhaps others with a different leading letter (I think m is another common prefix?). These latter files are the save files -- results.txt is empty until your first test is completed.

I am with Dubslow here. Additionally, if the expo was like 90% done, could it be that in fact... it finished? And it was reported and you got a new assignment? Please check your assignment and report status on primenet server.

No, the exponent did not finish. I looked for the intermediate files etc, and maybe I am just very Windows illiterate, but I couldn't even find the directory that had prime95 in it. Using Windows 7's search function for results.txt or wordtodo.txt yielded nothing either. I assume that the zip file extracted to the downloads folder by default, and there is no Prime95 directory there. Looking around a bit more, I think I have this sort of issue: http://www.mersenneforum.org/showthread.php?t=17206 I will switch over to my Windows side and take a closer look. Edit: I checked and couldn't find any of the intermediate save files on my machine. I think that I might have directly it from the zipped folder without it extracting properly to the program files directory. I guess I will just have to unreserve and carry on with my life haha Last fiddled with by mbn451 on 2013-03-23 at 12:50 |

Don't extract it to your Program Files directory, for the reasons in the other thread. Just put it somewhere in your My Documents.
