Make your own M40 poster

The following command:

echo 2 20996011^1-p | dc | tr -d \\\\ | awk -v lpl=39 -v lm=42 'BEGIN{print "%!PS"; print "/fontsize 2.36 def"; print "/Courier findfont fontsize scalefont setfont"; print lm" 5600 moveto"; print "/lf{ currentpoint exch pop fontsize sub "lm" exch moveto } bind def";}{lineno++; if (lineno % lpl == 1) printf "%s", "("; printf "%s", $0; if (lineno % lpl == 0) print ") show lf";}END{if (lineno % lpl != 0) print ") show"; print "showpage";}' > M40.ps

generates a nice PostScript file of M40 suitable for printing on a 138 cm wide and 2 meter tall paper. Use 54.1" x 78" if in England. The font is 2.36 point Courier. You need a large poster printer for this. It will not fit on A4 paper. :-)

Works under BASH but not CSH

How long will it take? not done yet after 6 min on a P4 2.8G machine

That's what the old line printer is useful for.
