Default Expiring policy for V5 Server

I´m doing "TF to low limits" on one of my machines. It is not always on, and sometimes it happens that when the results are returned to the server I get a message stating "result not needed". This seems to indicate that the exponent has been assigned to someone else, processed, and checked in, while my machine was off. Now the odd thing is that this happens even if I have the machine switched off for just 2 or 3 days. In other words, at least for this type of work, the assignments seem to expire rather quickly. Is this the expected behaviour of the V5 server, or some bug to be corrected?

I've "only" had this happen to me (and for hundreds to thousands of TF assignments "en bloc" in each case) when I manually added assignments to the worktodo.txt and no expected completion date was sent within 24 hours of reservation.

No big deal for me since no one else is likely to work on the exponents I work on, the results are still accepted and proper credit is given.

In my case the exponents were assigned by the server. I´m surprised that you got credit if the server said that the result is not needed. In the cases I got the message I didn´t get any. My main point is not the credit, but the fact that I am wasting processing power in exponents that were already trial factored.

It was a different message, like "No assignment" or some such.

"No assignment" is a symptom of a different story, I think.

I get this when a "step" on the ladder is missed - e.g.
"UID: B.../C..., M96777377 no factor from 2^68 to 2^69, Wd8: A0F38407" was for whatever reason not received by server and then later, if you send
"UID: B.../C..., M96777377 no factor from 2^69 to 2^70, Wd8: A0F38407"
you may get "No assignment" message back.
The reasons for skipping could be multiple; e.g. some bad timing - server was busy (happens in the first minutes of the hour), then suppose you restarted the computer and/or deleted the prime.spl file...

The solution (in my case - that helped) would be: find the missing message in the results.txt file and send it manually. It doesn't hurt to simply send all the "M96777377" messages manually (but excluding the % done messages); the server will make sense of them.

But it could be something totally different, too. Just my 2 cents.

I have gotten "result not needed" too.

Also the "no assignment".

I am currently using the exponent status report to ensure that the exponents that I add are not tied up. But that has not been a cure all. Also, I have noticed that some expo's that I added in the last 48-96 hours, now show that they are not assigned to any one. I have the assignment ID's in my worktodo.

If you email the exponent to me as well as any relevant prime.log info, then I can do some investigation.

No assignment is a catch-all error code. It could mean you weren't assigned the exponent or it could mean someone else reported the result or it could be an out-of-order TF result as described earlier.

I went back into the prime.log and figured out the a bunch that I got the 40 for was that I accidently skipped a bit level. That problem is solved.

But the problem with "assignment rot" is still around. I am doing TF work in the 332192831 - 332259831 range (100Mdigit). I pull the factoring effort report and then make a worktodo.add . P95 sucks it in. I then do a manual com. I get Assignmen ID's. See the attached zip of my worktodo. For a peroid afterward, the assignments show up on my workload report, then they dissappear. Currently none of my expos in that range show up.

This will be fixed in 25.7. In the meantime, choose Advanced/ Comm and send estimated completion dates after registering any assignments.

I did that and it started to shed assignments. Not much of a problem. I retrieved one that the machine had been working on for several hours, from the fxxxxxxxxx file.

Are you running afoul of the 60ish days of work limit? If so, there is an undoc.txt entry that eliminates the problem.
