Default www.mersenne.org/report_factoring_effort seems crippled

https://www.mersenne.org/report_fact...=1&tftobits=76

The above should surely yield some result, but void.
It's as if it now doesn't show anything below the .ca yellow mark, and also the tickbox to exclude assigned exponents appears to become asserted when deliberately unasserted.
Didn't mean to start that thread without elaboration.

You clicked the checkbox to generate a worktodo file so that you could TF exponents to 2^76. However, all exponents in that range have already been TF'ed to 2^76

This is a recent change?
Or maybe just me flicking attention to pushing from 76 to 79 bits, versus lower level work to 76 bits?
Ok, I do see some listings when changing the tolevel to higher than 76, so I guess it's all ok subject to interpretation.

https://www.mersenne.org/report_fact...=1&tftobits=76 is not the place to get assignments. See https://www.mersenne.org/manual_assignment/ or https://www.mersenne.org/manual_gpu_assignment/ or gpu72.com or mersenne.ca for making reservations, which avoids duplicate TF effort.

Thanks for that, I have been somewhat out of touch and had not noticed that new facility, which from experiment appears to allocate at the top end of any nominated range.

I am aware of the risk of effort duplication, and closely monitor regions where I operate, and I do have my own manner of bulk registration for assignments that primenet forms didn't want to offer, for some years now.
Indeed it is observable that I have TF reservations that the manual_assignment form would not have offered.

Regret that I had late night brain fade; Now I recall that when electing the worktodo output option on the report_factoring_effort form, being the brief output that I normally want see, primenet chooses to exclude assigned work.

It sounds to me you're saying the report you receive excludes already-assigned exponents. I'm unclear how it protects against other users being assigned LATER, exponents included in the report you get then, and duplication of effort occurring that way. Or maybe "my own manner of bulk registration for assignments" (whatever that is) handles that.
In any event, this part of the thread should serve as caution for noobs not to naively use the report generation method and imagine that's reservation. It's happened.
