Conservatives in the US supporting Russia believe in the "free and fair elections" that have kept Putin in power. They are attracted to his vision of "free speech" and "freedom of the press". Unfortunately one could argue that at least two members of SCOTUS fall into that camp. Those who are "middle of the road" politically should be very afraid of such conservatives.

Such usages of "conservative" - and they are ubiquitous - are IMO Orwellian doublethink. These folks aren't "conservative" in any traditional sense of the term. They are authoritarian subversives. Worse than the Copperheads during our Civil War.

"Thinking" is not an applicable term.

What we have here is a personality cult.

As with Stalin, Hitler, Kim Il Sung, Mao tse-Tung, et al, the cult figure s unworthy of the idolatry.

And pretending that "the institutions" of democracy are somehow a bulwark against tyranny, ignores the fact that institutions are no better than the people who occupy them.

My father was twice wounded in battle fighting against soldiers who had sworn loyalty to a person (der Führer) rather than to the institutions of government.

I am glad for his sake that he was spared having to see the country he fought for commit suicide in 2016, and the sequela.

The UK forces swear loyaly to the Monarch, not the government. An important protection against a government which is too extreme.

Actually, I found two different spellings for Amin. Edi and Edie.

I thought about adding Ho Chi Minh, but all his people considered him a family member. "Uncle Ho."

Vladimir Putin definitely belongs and so does Kim Jung-Un. Maybe Bashara al-Assad.

I've never seen either of those applied to him that I recall. When in doubt I lean toward what wikipedia uses, which is Idi in this case. Edie is a homophone, a substitute for Edith, typically a female's name.

I did too, but the Viet Minh civilian killings were about matched by the French there and while he was out of the country (going again by wikipedia).

I've seen photos of Ho Chi Minh in Europe pre WWII. Paris, I believe. He had hair back then.
