Hi,
I'm trying to get some P1 factoring machines working. Old comparatively slow ones without much memory for these days. There is a necessity for the machines to run only in daylight hours because otherwise (if they ran 24/7), they would collectively make too much noise and I would disturb the downstair neighbour's sleep. I thought it would be nice if there was a way to switch the machines on in the morning and turn them off at night. One solution to this would be to use wakeon lan but that's an old thing and I've been having trouble getting that to work. Someone I know told me that I achieve the same thing using virtualbox or virtual machines (are they the same thing?). I'm going to persevere with wakeon lan but I'd like to know if anyone can advise me on whether or not virtualbox or virtual machines could help me achieve what I want to achieve. |

Virtual machines need to have the host already running to be started up.
Some bios options include a time start. Since you are searching, I'll assume yours don't. Another option, if available in the bios, is to set the AC recovery to ON and use an outlet timer. If you try this, you should also have a shutdown routine run prior to the timer off. Last fiddled with by EdH on 2016-05-14 at 13:08 |

Edh's advice is excellent.
I found these on google and might also be helpful: http://www.howtogeek.com/204742/how-...on-a-schedule/ http://www.howtogeek.com/119028/how-...automatically/ Last fiddled with by a1call on 2016-05-14 at 15:06 |

Have you considered removing the hard drives to quiet the machines?
