Why is it that I usually (or at least often) see abandoned LL double checks from years ago for first time assignment I just recently completed?
Here's an example: http://www.mersenne.org/report_expon...9852007&full=1 |

Oh ok. Thanks. I didn't realize the work assignment type changed retroactively.

![]() The server does that because first/second checks have different expiration rules, so if something becomes a de-facto double-check, then it can now take longer to finish. It also helps figure things out internally in a few other areas. If there were ever a need, it would probably be possible to figure out if it was initially assigned as a first-time or double-check even if it switched to a DC later on, but in the grander scheme of things it doesn't matter so much... the credit given is the same, and in the case of a prime, whoever finds it first gets the credit, no matter if it was assigned first, second, poached, whatever. |
