i had a crash on prime95 on one computer that seemed hardware related, but turned out to be the config files. a reinstall fixed everything and we are back running. not sure what exactly happened, but that isnt the issue.
when i reinstalled, it started working on a new number. the old work files were still there, so i moved them to another multiprocessor system and started them there. but i just read on a faq that if i move the partial result to another computer to finish, gimps wont credit me with the work. is that true? and if so, should i just abandon the work? or can i just move it back to the computer that crashed? thanks |

If the workunit is still assigned to you there is no problem with finishing it on another computer. GIMPS and PrimeNet will credtit the work to you.
To find out if the work is still assigned to you you should look to your personnal status pages http://mersenne.org/cgi-bin/primenet...&UserPW=xxxxxx (assuming you use version 4 of PrimeNet) where you replace xxxxxx by your user ID and password, if you do not remember them, they are in the prime.ini (assuming you are using Prime95 V24.) You could also search for the exponent in the general v4 status page found here http://www.mersenne.org/primenet/status.shtml in the Hourly World Test Status, Assignments Report. Jacob |

If you do a manual communication : menu "Advanced", "Manual Communication" the server will reflect the change in computer ID. There should not be a problem (unless you let them expire... (65 days whithout communication usually.)
