Default can't find Prime95 in Windows Event Logs

Does anyone know how to make it show up?

I wanted to ensure that if the service is turned off by someone that it will automatically come back on within a few hours.

I was going to create a task in Task Scheduler that starts Prime95 within a few hours of the program ceasing to run. That should be an event I can set up. It allows doing it that way, but I first have to be able to find the event. Seems invisible to the Event Viewer.

Prime95 doesn't have a log handler of it's own, but service stop/start can be logged.

You have to enable auditing for services if you want it to log when they're manually stopped or started though. Search for how to do that but it can either be done with policies or using the "auditpol" command line, if that helps get you started.

OK, that's a good start. Thanks MP. So Prime95 is a service? Would that appear in services.msc ? I don't see it unless it's called something else.

After a Google search for enable+audit+service I come up empty.

I'll find out if this is a dead end or not.

Involves using the Local Security Policy tool in Windows.

Auditing can be started there.

Default found a bunch of stuff

In Local Security Policy, at the very bottom is Advanced Audit Policy Configuration.
Found out about it here:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/win...olicy-settings

The key seems to be to enable Audit Process Termination (for both success and failure) which is located Advanced Audit Policy Configuration\\System Audit Policies - Local Group Policy Object\\Detailed Tracking.

I suppose then that will force a log to be created which will then show up in Event Viewer. If it does that, then I will succeed with this because then it's just a matter of plugging in the info from the event into Task Scheduler.

Default SUCCESS!!!

Enabling that in Local Security Policy caused the Prime95 shutdown event to be recorded (along with a few other apps I closed in the tray).

I have something I can work with now. The rest is cake.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Prime95 for windows exists in two forms, one to run as ordinary program, the other to run as a service. You might try the second version.

Look for the files of the form "p95vXXXbX.winXX.service.zip" (f.i. p95v298b6.win64.service.zip) in the folder <url=https://www.mersenne.org/ftp_root/gimps/>https://www.mersenne.org/ftp_root/gimps/</url>. On the download page <urls=http://www.mersenne.org/ftp_root/gimps/>https://www.mersenne.org/ftp_root/gimps/</url> there is only the previous version i.e. 29.8b3. In those files there is a readme.nt which details the working of the service.

Default and then reality sets in

I can find when the program starts or terminates but not when it stops.

So, this won't work.

OK, if it's something that's installed as a service that may enable me to have a little more control. I'll take a look at that. I know what installer you're speaking of but I thought that was more for the server guys.
