Proving means testing at least twice.

My point being that even when all exponents below M13466917 have been tested once it proves nothing. Only when all the double checks have been completed can we say that M13466917 is the 39th Mersenne Prime.

This is somewhat confusing me. According to the PrimeNet Hourly World Test Status, there are over 300 first time tests still assigned below M13466917. So, can someone tell me why there is such a difference between these numbers?

These may be re-runs of the DC, (triple checks). It might be worth noting which these are (the actual numbers).

When a first test has errors during the run, these tests are often incorrect. I re-release these exponents as first-time tests in primenet. Thus, even though the exponent has been tested once, it still shows up in the server as a first-time test assignment.

The fact that there are dozens and dozens of exponents below M(13466917) which have only one incorrect LL test run is the primary reason why I consider the "all exponents below M(134466917) milestone" as meaningless - there could still be a Mersenne prime waiting to be found!

Some of these will finish soon, but some are making slow progress: two have been going for over 1000 days, and one of these is only about 1/3 done. This is one of the aspects of this project I really like: all contributions are welcomed, even if it seems slow to some. My point is just that it might be a while before nine becomes zero.
