My point being that even when all exponents below M13466917 have been tested once it proves nothing. Only when all the double checks have been completed can we say that M13466917 is the 39th Mersenne Prime.

This is somewhat confusing me. According to the PrimeNet Hourly World Test Status, there are over 300 first time tests still assigned below M13466917. So, can someone tell me why there is such a difference between these numbers?

The fact that there are dozens and dozens of exponents below M(13466917) which have only one incorrect LL test run is the primary reason why I consider the "all exponents below M(134466917) milestone" as meaningless - there could still be a Mersenne prime waiting to be found! |
