version 23.6 - don't bother to download it

I'm sure someone will notice a p95v236.zip in the gimps ftp directory. There is no need to download this version. The only change is to the torture test at the request of someone at Intel.

Torture test now brings up a dialog box letting you select which FFT sizes to run and how much memory to use. Also, machines faster than 1 GHz now run tests much longer than 400 iterations.

Didn't you guys know that for several years Intel has been using Prime 95 torture testing (perhaps a simplified version) as one of the many tests they run on new CPUs?

It has been rumored for a long time, but I don't think that Intel has ever confirmed it as an official practice. Competitive advantage and all.

So if someone at AMD requests an optimized version for the AMD64 processors will it happen.

Or, as it appears to me, is PRIME95 an intel only product.

George has had to buy the hardware necessary for him to do testing on various processors. Neither Intel nor AMD has provided him with processors, so improvements happen as George is able to acquire hardware. The P4 improvements didn't happen until quite some time after the P4 came out, because George didn't have a processor to test on. The Athlon improvements in the newer versions are because George purchased an AMD system to work on.

If someone at AMD wants an optimized version for the just released processors, they'll have to provide George with hardware, or they will have to wait for them to become affordable enough for George to buy one (or for some kind souls to provide him with one, my personal favorite).

Prime95 works just fine on my AMD processors, it is certainly not an Intel only product.

I was just going to request this feature when i saw this. :)
I always have an error at ~48minutes (896K FFT). Now i can fix my system a lot faster... thank you!
