Yes it will continue until the bit level is reached.
That is why on some of the expos you see that 3 factors are found and the expo was only taken to 48 bits. You could manually stop it if you wished.

Defective hardware
Hello there hunters,
About a couple of months ago, I made my first try in _Billon Digit_, by trying to factor the Mersenne with the exponent << 3321930173 >>. Well I am here again to inform you that I abandon the exponent because _Prime95_ torture test claims that my hardware is defective. That result came after running the test twice for about 20 hours. Should I abandon the project completely?? I used to run _factor32_ for about 10 hours a day...

I think you can go on with Project Billion Digits with no problems. Luigi

I made some statistics over the project, and am proud to announce that Project Billion Digits passed over 1000 P90 CPU hours
I will soon show this one and many more stats about the project and its partecipants on a new stats page. Luigi

Just for the sake of neatness, how about moving all the exponents that have had factors found for them to a separate table or a separate page. That table is going to get very long if you keep all of them mixed together.

Hello, ET!
1. I just want to ask if there will be a kind of factors and nofactor files of Billion Digits project? It will help me a lot to add BDP support to MPA program. 2. Factor_3_2 doesn't stop working over exponent when finding factor. Is there a way to stop when factor found and to move to next expo? 3. I factor some expo from 1 to 50 bit, and the found factor ouputs to be 50.191 bit... Is this becouse of rounding of calculations of something else? Thanx

1 Not exactly: you will have a web page where you can sort out factored and nonfactored exponents, as well as factors and who found them. Anyway, it may be a feature to put on my todo list. 2 It doesn't stop until it reaches the final bit length. This is why some exponents have more than one factor found. 3 The program runs until d=2kp+1 reaches or passes the stopbit limit. As the check is done on d, the reached bit depth may be slightly over the stopbit one. 4 There will be a new feature on version 3.3 that speeds up the search. I'm still working on it. Thank you for your interest, feel free to write to me anytime you like. Luigi

Ok! Thanx for inforamtion. I also noticed that batch version doesn't cleare already worked exponents from input.txt. Is there a way to restart testing from the place last session ended? I saw status.txt which holds some data about last worked points...
