Great work, y'all!

It looks like my predictions were wrong, though.

Edit: someone beat me to updating the English Wikipedia. I'll try to update the articles on the other editions of Wikipedia. I'll also try to start an article on Wikinews in the meantime.

Anyone want to write a script that downloads the cleared.txt file every hour?

The link's here, in case anyone's curious:

Or as Phil Moore suggested it's 11 world record primes and 1 world-record out-of-order Mersenne prime. 11+1 = 12.
Being the 2nd largest known prime is a record, just not a record breaker ;)

I created an article on Wikinews: http://en.wikinews.org/wiki/Two_larg...or_$100k_prize

Feel free to improve it, but please make sure it's correct and neutral!

That was me - and someone called "Lumidek". A little bit later Mini-Geek also made some changes.

So it looks like I was right (even though it was a joke reply to a joke ) in guessing that the real exponent was the 7th one reported before the one appearing with the fake residue:

43021553 is the fake and the real one 37156667 was reported 7 results earlier...

Here 32428427 is the fake and the real one is 43112609, but it is reported the same minute as 42206137 and there are no seconds, so I can't know which one comes first. But if I am right then 43112609 was the 7th reported before the fake.

It is interesting of course because when M44 was reported, the 3rd next one reported had a fake residue.

And we know the series 3, 7:

2^2-1 = 3 = M1
2^3-1 = 7 = M2

The trouble is, such an algorithm couldn't be sustained much longer. I don't think the typical number of results returned each hour is likely to grow exponentially with each new discovery.

Richard Crandall said they would take a week or two to become available.

What no one noticed was that in the cleared exponents report, only M37156667's residue was masked. For 3 hours, M43112609 sat there displaying a residue of 0000000000000000. When I saw that I quickly deleted 43112609 from the server database - the count went back to 1.

A few hours later, I tried reinserting the row but with the fake residue. This time the cleared report showed the fake residue but it was right justified instead of left justified. I thought someone would spot that, so I removed the row again. For several days, no one noticed that 43112609 was missing from the report. Until patrik tried to submit a P-1 result...

So, I reinserted 43112609 with the fake residue and marked it composite. I then changed M38859463's state to prime. The unverified count was right and the cleared report properly displayed 43112609's fake residue.

I'm somewhat surprised that the super sleuths here never figured it out!
Lol, I had those cleared.txt but never searched for 0000 or looked at Aug 23 turnins, only looked at Sep 6th:

I did notice at Sep 7th the Primes unverified: 2 was back at 9am only, and I see now in that cleared.txt there is a wierd 16digit residue :)
