I just downloaded prime 95 on my laptop yesterday and left it running overnight and I have set it to only run when on mains power. I now wan't to run it on battery for a while but I don't know how to make it start testing again. I have gone into preferences and set it to run on battery power but it doesn't seem to do anything.

Also your power settings at the operating system level may be limiting Prime95 while on battery.
