Default Pollution in China

Powerful photo essay, “Pollution in China”, vividly illustrating the dire consequences in the producing countries to which the industrial side effects of western consumerism have been offshored. Be warned that some of the images are quite disturbing; others possess a kind of awful, alien beauty, as if they were taken on another planet. Many are quite simply haunting. So the next time you’re about to buy that “Made in [insert name of country where lax labor and environmental laws makes production of cheap widgets profitable]”-labeled item at the neighborhood mega-discount superstore, please pause and ask yourself, “Do I really need this?”

Cheers,
-E

Cue conservatarian wingbats equating environmental legislation with fascism.

(Nah: that's not an incendiary statement there!)

... because, while their big export customer has raised a big fuss about melamine-tainted products it imported, China's domestic industrial pollution is mainly only a curiosity, at most, for folks in the U.S.

Now, if someone were to dump some Chinese industrial pollution on a U.S. West Coast beach, U.S. interest could change in a hurry.

Quote:
Officials in Delhi have unveiled a radical solution to tackle the increasingly noxious smog hanging over the city: a giant public air freshener that scrubs the atmosphere clean.

. . .

Delhi is the second dirtiest city in the world in terms of the amount of particulate matter in the atmosphere, according to the World Bank.
