It seems to me that on the PrimeNet Assignment Rules page the condition

Code:

Setting for "days of work to queue" <= 5.

is missing for Category 1 Double-Checking.
For Category 0 it is <=3 and for category 2 it is <=10. It would then be coherent with the category 1 conditions for the Lucas-Lehmer tests.

The web page is correct.

Cat 1 originally may have required days-of-work <= 5 and after some time not enough cat 1's were getting assigned. Thus, the restriction was removed.

Does it matter how this test is ran? I am 55% through this on a 1080 using CUDALucas. Just under 14 hours left.

If this is a double check meant for your CPU that you moved to the 1080 GPU, then it defeats the purpose. The point is to run 1 double check per year on every CPU that you use for LL/PRP tests, to test if the CPU is reliable.
It is not a bad idea to double check on GPU as well, but that is a manual process.

It's a good thing to occasionally run double-checks on your gpu, in addition to your cpu.
Not only does it double check both hardware units, it double-checks the software, potentially in an fft length not run on your hardware before, which might show up new issues.
(I'm currently running CUDAPm1 on multiple gpu models on an assortment of fft lengths each, and finding interesting behaviors that differ model to model. CUDAPm1 was derived from CUDALucas, so some of it may apply somewhat to CUDALucas also.)

If you are running prp there is probably no point because errors will be detected. If it detecting errors you should worry.

That's a good point on prp with Gerbicz check built in, providing continuous error checking. It applies to gpuOwL (on AMD or IGP gpus) and parts of Prime95/mprime. It does not currently apply to NVIDIA gpus, for which no PRP Mersenne application is available. (CUDALucas and CUDAPm1 do not have PRP, Gerbicz check, or Jacobi check.)

Looking at all DC assignments that are severely past their ETA and with no recent progress (or no progress ever). I would suggest that the scaling of the Categories go up by 50% (more assignments in ranges 0-3). This would shove more poor performers back up into Cat 4. It would allow more to expire once they have slipped into Cat 3 or 2. As is we are seeing numbers down in the low Cat 1 that may have been Cat 3 to start with. None of these have checked in in a week or more and many in more that a month. And we will have to wait a month (or almost 3 in some cases) for them to expire. 6 of the userid's are responsible for over 180 of these. These are only those a week past the ETA or with no ETA and in the bottom 1000 of the DC's. This is 286. There should not be that many by the time they get to the low Cat 1.

I would suggest bump the level for the top of Cat 3 up by 10% each 2 weeks until the 50% increase is reached. Start bumping up the Cat 2 range after the first month, same way. A month after that, do the same for Cat 1. Do Cat 0 in a single jump with the first bump of Cat 1.

Right now, for a DC milestone, one of the best predictors for when it will be cleared is when the milestone moves within cat 1. In general it won't be cleared any sooner than about 4 months after it moves into cat 1 because of cat 2 assignments that run out their full expiration period (120 days) by actually starting the assignment and then checking in regularly enough until they are at least 60 days into the assignment. After expiration they get reassigned (probably in cat 0 by then) and promptly completed.

If cat 1 is widened a lot, then that may no longer be a reliable predictor. I don't know if it will forward the goals long term if cat 2 - cat 4 are pushed out, they become slower to complete due to the larger exponent size and more likely to be abandoned. But it's probably better than tightening up expirations which would increase the amount of duplicated and wasted work.

It won't show the "about to expire for not checking in" countdown until that date is close (I think it's somewhere between 50 and 55 days late so 5-10 days from expiring for that reason). So an exponent may show that it's got 90 days left to expire, but if it hasn't been checking in and continues to not check in, it will expire much sooner.

For Category 0 it is <=3 and for category 2 it is <=10. It would then be coherent with the category 1 conditions for the Lucas-Lehmer tests. Jacob
