I find that errors of that kind often mean that I've run out of disc space and some intermediate files have been corrupted; at worst you may have to redo the linear algebra.

First, make a backup of everything in the directory and save it somewhere else. So if you get stuck you can restore from the backup and try again.
Did the system crash during the linear algebra? If so that could cause problems that need to be fixed by running msieve manually. To restart the linear algebra try: ./msieve -s /root/ggnfs/example.dat -l /root/ggnfs/example.log -i /root/ggnfs/example.ini -nf /root/ggnfs/example.fb -t 2 -ncr If that works run: ./msieve -s /root/ggnfs/example.dat -l /root/ggnfs/example.log -i /root/ggnfs/example.ini -nf /root/ggnfs/example.fb -t 2 -nc3 If that fails you could re-run the linear algebra with: ./msieve -s /root/ggnfs/example.dat -l /root/ggnfs/example.log -i /root/ggnfs/example.ini -nf /root/ggnfs/example.fb -t 2 -nc If you get stuck run "ls -l" in the dir and post the output. That will help us work out what to do. But don't forget to make a backup first! Chris PS, are you running it as root? I've always run it as a normal user account, although that should not stop it from working. |

Bad news, example.dat is only 5777 bytes. That should contain all the relations found by sieving. Without them you can't hope to complete the run.
All you can do now is start all over again by deleting all the files named example.* except example.n and example.poly, then re-running factmsieve.py (or factMsieve.pl). This assume you don't have a copy of example.dat anywhere else. Chris |

What number are you trying to factor? All I know is the size (154 digits), and there are a lot of C154s out there.

1. Look at "example.dat.bak.chk" and "example.dat.chk", perhaps they are ok.
Make a copy of the directory and rename perhaphs "example.dat.chk" to "example.dat" and restart with "-nc1". 2. Check, if the entry Code:
SAVEPAIRS = True |
