I've been wanting to make a superhero modeled after what I want in a superhero, but I want his abilities to be easily explainable, and what I call 1-step from reality, meaning the leaps of fancy aren't major. The 1-step rule also means I want things to kinda make sense from a physics standpoint.
Haven't come up with a backstory, honestly I just want to take Peter Parker and put him in a duplicate universe that's identical to his except for his abilities. Peter Parker's pretty cool on his own(Spiderman) but I also want to switch him to Magneto-like abilities with a few changes. Basically, this new guy's abilities can be described as three major abilities that he uses to do his various things. The powers together are called force and basically it's my own take on telekinesis and combines some aspects of stories I've read together. The first part of the force ability has to with, and I'm going to expose my lack of education here, the ability of atoms to push other atoms away and not simply combine. I forget the term, but he can do it remotely, but his power goes down with the square of the distance and how high the volume of the item is. He pushes on all parts of the item, so the volume of the item helps to determine the amount he can push it, and because he's pushing the entire item, rather than a surface, deceleration and acceleration effects are mitigated. So if he's fresh and alert, he can stop a speeding car dead in it's tracks without harming the occupants. And he can give a near impenetrable shield to people who are under attack, kind of like Neo did in The matrix with the bullets. The secondary ability to force is the much less useful subatomic vibration ability, he can heat things up and cool things down, except the cooling ability is a lot harder than the heating ability. He's basically like a microwave oven that can be used on any material, and his ability is a field effect, so he can hit any part of an object even objects behind stuff. I'm thinking we can just say he can control Brownian motion. Except he calls it James Brownian motion because it shows he's educated and silly at the same time. The third ability is the sensing ability, he can literally see mass, which means he can see through anything. He can't use the ability for sexual reasons because the alternate view seems extremely alien to his subconscious. The distance he can see is limited by how much mass is between him and what he wants to see, so he might be able to see multiple yards through steel, but miles through atmosphere. I'm thinking he might do this by directly detecting gravity waves. So, now, what can he do with these abilities. One thing he can do, though it takes practice, is fly. Even though his power doesn't come through his hands, he pushes off things by pointing(it's a subconscious thing that helps him make sense of his ability), mostly the ground, by pushing at it. He doesn't push off anything in particular, and because of the size of the planet, it's easiest to go up and down. Unless he pushes really hard, things tend not to move when he's flying, so it's similar to regular telekinesis, except he doesn't limit the range. He can do regular telekinesis stuff, like make stuff float in the air, and he can push a kid on a swing from yards away from where people are normally expected to stand, and in any direction. He can skydive without a parachute and give rides to people, though the first few times he did it, the government got mad at him and made him sign a bunch of stuff promising to follow their guidelines. The government also tried to make him sign a bunch of stuff saying he wouldn't try to hurt people or go against the United States or it's allies, but he refused, saying that signing stuff wouldn't change anybody's behavior, and also kind of offended him. The government asked him where he was during 9/11 and he said his flying ability was kind of bad and he didn't want confused cops shooting at him thinking he was one of the bad guys. He regrets the decision not to help, but that was his reasoning at the time, given another chance he would have come as soon as he realized the first plane had hit. In this alternate universe the government has the same attitude towards Al-Queda, but ISIS doesn't exist because his help prevented most of the collateral damage caused by the military in this universe. Oh, and lastly, even though I'm sure I could come up with more, Osama Bin Laden is in a government prison for 100s of life sentences because you can't do anything while in a force blanket.(Guantanamo Bay doesn't exist because they couldn't prevent him from flying there and taking copious numbers of pictures to post to Wikileaks -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I posted this because of the physics, but you can help me come up with a better backstory. Like his education and how he got his powers, personally I think it should involve the Large Hadron Collider. Last fiddled with by jasong on 2016-05-22 at 03:21 Reason: some stuff was kind of silly |

Thanks for the links, now my new nightmare is getting my ass kicked by an effeminate homosexual bodybuilder.
"But..but...he was HUGE, and he punched really hard!!!" "Hahaha, Jason got his ass kicked by a faggot." (Not that I'd use the term, it's just part of the nightmare) Edit: Just noticed my avatar has some majorly come hither eyes. I promise that wasn't intended, but I'm not sure if it's better or worse than the copulating unicorns. Last fiddled with by jasong on 2016-05-22 at 14:01 |

I don't see anywhere where there is a superhero. All you have so far talked about is an entity with capabilities beyond a normal person. But that doesn't make anyone a superhero. And indeed you explicitly state that your "superhero" was not bothered to help out in at least one situation. Real heroes don't need super-powers, they just need to be willing to help out without thought for their own needs and desires. What you describe above makes the entity (whatever it actually is) appear quite arrogant and not willing to help.

In my mind, his personality is a combination of me and Peter Parker, without schizophrenia and way more of a tendency to study for classes. Edit: Went back and reread some posts. Yeah, 9/11 was a bad decision on my guy's part. While he's a good guy, he's very self-centered, and sometimes has trouble fathoming the long-term consequences of his actions. Just like me. Drone laws exist about a decade early relative to this universe because of other bad decisions he's made in the past. No near misses, but people got nervous.
