You should pick the LP size that best avoids the low-yield large Q for the octic- it's not like 33/34 is going to make a notably larger matrix than 33/33, but it could shrink max-Q by 10%. I wonder if 32/34 is faster than 33/33, too.

As mentioned, I did run this as a 32/33 job and considered 32/34 but did not try this last scenario. The ever increasing matrix size scared off me but I’ll take another look.

Reran test sieving of 2,2622L as a 34/32 quartic job, as well as a 32/34 octic. I wrestled with r/alim but got inconsistent results and eventually just went with 225M/225M for both the quartic and the octic.

The octic is the clear winner.

Download speed is very low (50-70kb/s) - I'm downloading relations for 6113_249 job and downloaded only 2Gb after 12 hours. Usually it takes 15-20min for whole file.

I'm getting the usual 25 MB/s for a transfer from California to New York. But I also see a much slower download of 61113_249.dat.gz running now. Not sure why...
Hmmm...it's to an IP very near UK...

I'm getting very variable download speeds, sometimes up to 2.4Mbytes/sec and sometimes as low as 15 kb/sec, but for the *same* job. (Scroll right to see transfer rates.)

traceroute response times don't seem to vary between times when the download is fast and when it's slow. But I don't always get a response from hops 7 to 13.

So the French are on a move hiting server very hard and you might see some air strikes from other teams to reconquer first place on formula boinc.

Edit: French team have chosen NFS project for an internal challenge which ends 03.04.2022.

I had noticed an increase starting earlier this week. Thanks for letting me know. I'll keep an eye on it. Nice home bandwidth, btw!

Server is copping very well so far, well done with the management improvements done last year. Gigabit bandwidth availability is spreading very quickly around UK (not in Cambridge yet), paying less than $50 per month for this 500Mbps connection.
