Default Skinning a cat

Paul recently repeated the legend that there is more
than one way of accomplishing this task.

A few years back I was charged with decompressing JPEGs.
This necessitated a fast (inverse) discrete cosine transform
for 8 elements. I knew that a bloke called Chen had an algorithm
which accomplished this with 11 multiplies, but I elected to work it out
for myself.

I wrote my algorithm in BASIC, and as an afterthought looked up
Chen's version which was presented in C.
They were idendical, verbatim including the blank lines
inserted for clarity.

When I showed this to a colleague, he remarked:
"Just goes to show there's only one way to skin a cat"

Perhaps some of you might like to duplicate this.

Wow, what are the odds that you both happened to write a polyglot!

Since (as usual) I have started a thread wherein
allcomers have Carte Blanche re highjacking, I may as well
throw in this dictum from my late and beloved Dad.

Having showed him the first flat I bought (Teddington overlooking
Bushey Park) he displayed general approval with a mild exception:

"You might say there isn't room to swing a cat, but I've never
seen the reason to do such a thing anyway".

PS BBC News just described the Japan earthquake as
"CATastrophic".

Definately post, have you ever tried to give a cat a bath?!

Sort of difficult to obtain a cat skin rug after any of those processes though.

lavalamp I have and semi succeeded, when you have a cat being attacked by what could be a coyote you risk it especially if your mother is seeing a home care nurse who insist it.

With the proper application of a snake or snake substitute, you can have a cat jump into a bath.

Or use one of these:

Yes, many times. It's not actually that difficult, though it's easier to give them a shower than a bath.

One particularly memorable occasion occurred when we lived at a house with a cow field on the other side of the fence at the bottom of the garden. Our cat jumped off the fence and landed all four legs directly into a fresh cowpat. He slunk home and made it quite clear that he wasn't going to lick himself clean.

Some warm water and mild shampoo later, he was wrapped up in a large fluffly towel and purring loudly.

I suppose the application of a match to a cat covered with a volotile fluid such as petrol or alcohol would de-skin a cat while making it go "WOOF".
I am told that if you freeze a dog sufficiently it will go "MEEEEOOOOW" on a band saw.
