In fact, the most wonderful thing that could happen this year would be that Ake (who invested a lot of work into it already) finds a factor for this number, ending this century-old controversy. I honestly hope this will happen sooner or later.

P.S. methinks this number is prime too, but don't tell anyone!

If it is prime no human will ever know for sure, I think. So far I have not come across any mathematical argument that says that it's more probable to be prime then any other mersenne number (with prime exponent) of the same size.

The only hope we have is if somebody finds a factor, and I think someone will do that sooner or later, but it can take centuries!

PS. Of coures I HOPE it's prime. That would be so nice.
