Oh, I'm sure your thanks *are* real. And I'm sure you're not joking about living in Colombia. It's your mathematics that would be in question.

Anyone notice the "...I have *a two* new Mersenne primes..."? Because two crankish discoveries are always more believable than one.

Yes, I noticed that from the beginning, it always happens to me when I want to tell a lie

or make a joke, then change my mind and edit it to make it more plausible, but I always forget to take out the former text

I think is kind of karma, or pure psychology, our brain feels somehow guilty and is somehow locked on the lie we wanna tell, so we forget to reason.

I do find it weird how less than 5 days after this thread started a possible discovery actually happened to show up.

Given the steady rate at which we get such claims, it's not too surprising that one eventually coincides within a couple of days with an actual discovery.

There is a psychological word for it and its synchronicity as defined by Carl Jung. The interesting thing is not really that things like this actually happen, but rather our psychological experience that there is some kind of hidden meaning in things which are totally random.

I was thinking of such mental phenomena couple nights ago while watching the approaching-full moon and contemplating the lovely coincidence that the ever-receding moon is within the narrow distance range needed to allow for total solar eclipses during the relatively brief period humankind has been around.

Of all the myriad possible events going on all around us, evolution has simply made us prone to picking out such coincidences. Apparently the ability to spot (alleged) patterns has sufficient species-level survival benefit that the occasional (or even fairly frequent) spurious one is OK, wacky comet-centric suicide cults notwithstanding.
