CADO workshop on integer factorization INRIA Nancy-Grand Est (INRIA Lorraine), Villers-lès-Nancy, France October 7 – 9, 2008 http://cado.gforge.inria.fr/workshop/ The CADO workshop on integer factorization will take place at INRIA Lorraine (LORIA), Villers-lès-Nancy, France, from October 7th to 9th, 2008. The topic of the workshop is integer factorization and in particular the Number Field Sieve algorithm and its implementations. The CADO workshop takes place just before Sage Days 10, scheduled just in the same place from Oct. 10th to 15th. Confirmed speakers: * Kazumaro Aoki, NTT ; * Daniel J. Bernstein, University of Illinois at Chicago ; * William B. Hart, University of Warwick ; * Thorsten Kleinjung, EPFL-LACAL ; * Reynald Lercier, CELAR & Université de Rennes 1 ; * Peter L. Montgomery, Microsoft Research ; * (list to be completed) Besides invited talks, some contributed talks on the topics of the workshop may be included depending on submissions. Participants willing to present work on integer factorizations are kindly requested to contact the organizers as soon as possible. Note that no proceedings are planned for the workshop. Registration The registration is not open yet. A low registration fee will be asked in order to cover for lunches and coffee breaks. About CADO The CADO project is an initiative from the CACAO project-team at INRIA Lorraine, the TANC project-team at INRIA Saclay, and the number theory group at IECN. ![]() I could give a talk. I have some (new) results on optimal selection of the *size* of the sieve region for the lattice sieve. The results are similar to those of my recent paper on line sieve. --> One always wants to sieve in regions where the probability of success is highest, and for the lattice sieve this means that the regions should decrease in size as the special q increase. I am working on a more precise quantification of this statement. But I wasn't invited. And right or wrong I do feel slighted. |

able to attend, I'd certainly be interested to hear whatever Lercier has to say. I don't know anything about Hart, but I presume that's my fault, rather than the organizers. Everyone else has certainly factored one or more interesting numbers (at the time, at least). I count four of six that have written (parts) of nfs code, and perhaps Lercier as well on CADO-nfs? Likewise, four of six (that I know of) on having published a paper on nfs. You haven't mentioned interest in contributing to the cado project, which would also seem to be a relevant consideration. Sounds to me like one or two speakers not one-of-the-usual-suspects, which isn't anything to be insulted about. Another point on speaker selection, looks like two were part of the kilobit snfs project, a large fraction of the people that have actually used the distributed parallel Wiedermann. Bernstein has had more than anyone's fair share of good thoughts on computation ("circuits", for example, as well as the maspar nfs, before many other people had nfs's). I'm fairly sure that you're not disputing Peter's inclusion, for many reasons, but especially for current thoughts on 768-bit nfs. Bill is much more involved with SAGE than with factoring. Last I heard he was doing a lot of work on multithreaded (QS) factoring, or more generally multithreaded computational number theory
