It's an astonishing fact that the oldest people alive today were born into a world with a population less than a quarter of today's. And even back then, the number of humans inhabiting this little planet thus far has never been higher from year to year. Civilization has come such a long way, despite the myriad of possibilities to take it down one way or another.

There's a distinctively positive message that I could take away:

Abuse disappears across generations, people constrain its spread. That's a testament to the genuine dominance of good over evil in the human heart.
I may close by paraphrasing a song of Lana Del Rey: Hope is a dangerous thing for a fellow like me to have - but I have it.

In at least the 308th mass shooting of 2022 (Gun Violence Archive), six people were killed and 31 injured when a gunman on the roof of a nearby business fired a high-powered rifle at a Fourth of July parade in Highland Park, Illinois.

A suspect has been taken into custody.

Let's just keep blaming all the wrong things, to distract everyone from the real root cause.

"Every agency in that hallway is gonna have to share the blame," he said. Personnel from multiple law enforcement agencies gathered inside and outside the school before the gunman was challenged and killed.

Let this sink in—guns now kill more Americans between the ages of 1-24 than motor vehicle accidents. ➡️Before guns took the lead, vehicle accident deaths was once the leading cause for 60 years. Not anymore.

2) After more than 60 years in which motor-vehicle crashes were the leading cause of death for young people, guns now kill more Americans between the ages of one and 24. In 2020 more than 10,000 young Americans were killed by firearms, up from just under 7,000 two decades earlier

3) Regulations on guns have been loosened in much of America over the past 20 years. A bill that aimed to introduce universal background checks on gun sales failed to pass the Senate in 2013

4) Although last year 27 states and Washington, DC passed 75 laws to increase gun safety, according to the Giffords Law Centre to Prevent Gun Violence, a pressure group, several states, including Texas, have moved in the opposite direction

5) The Lone Star State now allows “permitless carry”—ie, people over 21 can carry guns in public with no permit or training, provided that they are not otherwise banned from owning a firearm. In 2021 19 states passed a total of 64 laws to reduce restrictions on guns

7) There was one child found wandering around after the #HighlandPark shooting - both his mom and dad both were killed in the shooting. His father shielded his son from the bullets — and gave his life to save his son. Let’s stop this tragedies

9) Let’s end gun violence from the root cause, not by making kids wear damn bulletproof blankets

Bulletproof blankets during active-shooter drills in American schools—yet meanwhile, some claim kids wearing masks in schools is too “traumatizing” for kids.

10) Meanwhile in Texas, you can buy an AR-15 and unlimited rifle ammunition easier than you can shoot a duck hunting shotgun that has restricted ammo for the sake of not over killing ducks
Quote:
Texas says you can’t have >3 shotgun shells loaded into a duck hunting shotgun, or else you’ll kill too many ducks.

Also in Texas: You can buy AR-15 assault rifles & buy large capacity magazines for maximal carnage and reload capacity to kill Uvalde school kids.

I'd rather have a classroom full of traumatised kids, than a classroom full of dead kids.

Sorry, I've got to stop now. I've just started crying for all those kids I never know and who lived more than5000 miles away.

I resonate with this. I actually re-entered therapy recently to deal with the emotions caused by the actions of others thousands of km away.

We can all stand strong, and keep a stiff upper lip.

But, at some point, could we please be allowed to be a little bit emotional? And cry when it is appropriate?

Just putting that out there...

Everyone is distraught that the police response to the Uvalde shooting was botched.

We think that this response is probably what can be expected.

https://www.cnn.com/2022/07/13/us/uv...day/index.html

This is not easy to watch. Do so at your own peril.

Again, who are you going to rely on? When seconds count the police are minutes hours away. Only a delusional person would expect the police to help.
