This is one part of the document he faxed me. I don't think I ever got 100% of the form he was supposed to complete, but he sent a few FAXs. The jumbled up pages in the way he sent them.

One of the tips I learned from the 419 Eater website, is that if you send them a form, ensure it has a lot of colored background to use up lots of their ink. Unfortunately I did not do that.

Default Scamming going on over WhatsApp. Who knew?

This is largely a test to see how big an image I can upload.

This dude actually called me (over WA). The broken English was priceless. When asked, he claimed he was in California, even though the NXX is mapped to Florida.

I actually played the game to see how far it would go. I've seen attempts like this in the past, but simply blocked the number.

I'm going to leave this idiot unblocked, just to see if he comes back.

The Pari users mailing list is being spammed. I was suspicious as soon as I saw the subject and sender address, and skipped downloading. I consulted the list archive. Suspicion confirmed. Message deleted without being downloaded. List manager duly notified.

I retrieved the text of the message from the archive. Besides the obvious self-promotion, I note that the message says "I am from Germany" but the country code of the "From" address says "I am from Serbia." The odd terminology, grammar, and capitalization are amusing. The reply-to address is a real hoot.

Susanne Klatten is actually Germany's wealthiest woman and own parts of e.g. BMW. Despite this, she is not well known to the general public, even in Germany. So I do not know why one would choose her as a faked sender.

The first part of the @gmail address translates to: Susanne's loan offering.

Hello Dear, I am Craig Batko an International Trade Compliance Expert
and Loan Facilitator, I liaise between our investors and their foreign
clients to coordinate their activities and also help them to secure
investment loan capital. Right here on my table, I have a file
containing relevant documents, including a signed and approved loan
for one Syrian the sum of $6,500.000.00, since August 2019 but
unfortunately, he hasn't come forward to claim his loan and the
information I have is that he died in a bomb attached in his home days
after the loan was approved. Please reply for more details. Thanks..
Oh, dear, that sounds quite Syrious - this is why one should never attach bombs in, or to, one's home.

I blinked at the amount of money. The first period should be a comma, or the first comma should be a period and the second period should be a comma.

The mistake got me curious. So, I googled using "the sum of $6,500.000.00" and got quite the hit parade of 419 scam messages. One of them may have been from the unfortunate Syrian referred to in the present instance

What is the actual amount of that loan ($6,500.000.00)? It kind of looks like a very precise $6500 to me. And, so what? Someone else could get a loan, too. Was there a special interest attached, besides explosives?

That would be $0 and you can add as many following zeros and/or dots and/or commas as you want, the amount won't ever change, that is what they will give you.

Actually, not that's quite accurate, they will give you $0 + a whole lot of bullshit.

I got a call today telling me my computer has not been getting Windows Updates lately.
I played along a bit for "fun"...because updates are working just fine.

He asked if I've been going to suspicious web sites or opening suspicious emails.
"No I haven't"

He had me run msconfig ... services and showed me that I had many stopped processes...and that if I continued to NOT get updates more and more processes will stop ... yeah right.

I humored him.

Then he wanted me to enter the following in the windows command box (bottom left white entry field).
www DOT supportme1800 DOT com

That is where I ended the call ... "You said to NOT go to suspicious web sites" and I hung up.

After I hung up I decided to so some googling about this web site.
What surprised me was that there were no google results returned warning that this web site is spam.

Hmmm...anyone?

Check the whois info for when the site was registered.

Although even that is unreliable. Domain names can be parked for a long time until someone decides to use it. So probably it is just the latest in a line of many they have ready for use when the previous one is tagged for mischief.

All URL's deactivated.
The site https://www.supportme1800.com provides links (amid a lot of Java script) to official downloads of programs for sharing the desktop like ultraviewer, logmein, anydesk, ... :
https://ultraviewer.net/en/UltraViewer_setup_6.4_en.exe
https://secure.logmeinrescue.com/DE/Customer/Code.aspx?murl=/
https://download.anydesk.com/AnyDesk.exe?_ga=2.42772901.1680984756.1632352940-1431853392.1628018705
...

Once the scammers have their "client" download and install one of those programs their fun would begin. Perhaps the scripts on the linking site helps them further ... but the client will install a legitimate program.
