Default Torture test stuck

Hello. I dont know whether this is hard or software related.
I have tried out Prime95s 'Torture test' on 2 computers. On one it ran okay for hours, going through all the tests with no problems.

However on the other it never gets past Test 1. It stays on it overnight. When I eventually stop the test it says there were no errors so it's not as if it has crashed the computer.
In the task manager Prime95 is using very few resources and there is very little hard drive activity. It is as if the test isn't running. I have tried the 3 different turture test settings
Does anyone know why this should be??
Thanks.
Pentium 4 2.6Ghz
1.5G Ram
Radeon 9800Pro Latest ATI Catalyst drivers
Windows XP Home SP2

Thanks

Choose the custom test and decrease the amount of memory prime95 can use.

OK I did it and it . I run a pair of Kingston 512MB DDR 400 in dual channel mode (total 1GB) in an Abit NF7-S mobo. How much do you think is a good amount of memory to test with trustable results?
Thanks

OK I did it and it worked fine with 874MB. Should I try with more memory or is this amount enough? Sorry. I didn't find the " edit" button

It is not important to find the maximum memory number that does not cause thrashing. So 874MB is fine, and congratulations on passing the torture test!

Thanks for your response. Well, I ran for 9 hours and 20 minutes and then received the Illegal Sumout error: Test ran for 9 hours and 20 minutes - 0 errors and 100 warnings. I ran yesterday a 12 hour CPU Stability Test and everything worked fine. No crashes. I don't know if my system is stable or not. What do you think? Is there anything else I should try to ensure that it's stable? CPU temps max during the test was 52C and case 35C. My CPU is tired of working that hard I'll give it a little rest tonight. I'll be waiting for your suggestions/oppinions. Thanks a lot
PS: Can I do something in my PC during custom torture test? Because I opened emails, installed little programs, MSN , internet explorer, but nothing that consumes two much of my CPU. Whe I received the Illegal Sumout warning i was doing nothing on my PC...

No, I didn't install these programas... I ran them while prime95 is running. I never tried prime95 for 9 hours before. In help of prime95 is written that it could be a software problem. I never know if you can do something in your PC while running prime95. I noticed some test that just performed test 1 or 2, and even just test 1. It happened when I was doing something in my PC. When I just stay looking at the screen it always does 3 tests for each FFT.
But I received the Illegal Sumout when I was doing nothing. Suggestions? Prime95 is the only test iI trust for stability...
Thanks

You can use your computer during the torture test. If you use memory intensive programs then you should run the prime95 torture test in place or using custom with less memory.

The 100 Iillegal sumout warnings are cause for concern, but does not necessarily indicate a hardware problem. In Win9x days this usually indicated a naughty device driver that did not save and restore the FPU state properly. The OS has supposedly improved since then so I'm not sure what the most likely cause is. You could check if you have the lastest video and sound card drivers.

I ran it again with 874MB, custom. For 12h and no errors. I do nothing while running the test. 3 tests for each FFT as far as I could notice. Custom is a torture test in wich you set an amount of memory for use of the test, isn't it? The default of custom is 927MB. I suppose that this is what blend test uses but it stucks in test 1 all the times I tried to run blend test... Or does blend test varies the usage amount of memory according to user's work in the computer? If I try to run custom test with its default 927MB it stucks too. Well, I guess we have a Prime95 bug here. I'm not the only one that have problems with Prime95 running 1GB of memory, amount that is very used recently. I ran Prime95 for a long time in a lot of PCs and it always does 3 tests for each FFT. Using the computer while running the test, or not. Now I have to use custom test, and sometimes it does 2 or even 1 test for each FFT. And it always happen when I'm doing something in the computer, downloading, etc. I hope they have this bug fixed in the next version.
Thanks for your response
