What happened here?

Is it just a 33M that took forever?

I can run a double check of it in a week or two if needed...

You've got to admire the man's patience.

What's he running it on?

Were 33M exponents out on Sept. 2000?

Yes. It was the longest running exponent (not by much: there's a couple more at 1200+ days and counting, and about 22 or so at 1000+ days).

Current no. 1 is 33225139 (currently at iteration 23.5M).
Current no. 2 is 10412737 (currently at iteration 6.3M).

No. 2 above is slowly chugging along and updating regularly. In a recent 9-day period, it managed a blazing speed of one iteration every 32 seconds. Oddly, the machine name is "Kids-p3-900", suggesting it ought to be a lot faster. It will soon be overtaken by the leading edge of regular double-checking, which is currently sweeping through the 10.1M range.

While it would be interesting to see if the exponent ran 3 1/2 years without an error, there's nothing particularly unusual about the exponent or the result (other than the very long run time).

Prize money was offered March 31 1999.

I'm not sure how soon after that Primenet and Prime95 were modified to allow requesting for ten-million-digit exponents.

By the way, that particular exponent was assigned April 14 2000.

I think I may have a few of those "1000+ day" exponents - either on one of my various K6-based boxes or one of my Celerons.

(does a quick check)

Yup, my fileserver (Celery-333 or 400, I forget which) is due to complete in July 2007.

8-)

Oh, wait - you mean exponents that have ALREADY run 1000+ days. Never mind.

9-)

I suspect the guy with the apparent P3-900 only had it on a few hours a day - if it was a "for the kids" computer, it likely was only on when the kids were up and at home.

This is status.txt (assigned exponents), transformed into comma-separated fields instead of fixed-width.

The 6th field is the "days to go", so the champ has 10009 estimated days to go (27.4 years).

You mean you can *start* the DC in a week or two, or that it will *take* a week or two? How fast is your machine?

I could start it... Prime95 tells me it would take 24 days or so...
