I am using ggnfs-svn360-win32-p4.zip obtained from http://gilchrist.ca/jeff/factoring/. I am running this on a p4 2.8GHz.
That's a pretty decent speed. I'm running a range on a Pentium dual core and getting this:
Code:
total yield: 1547, q=12000643 (0.08344 sec/rel)

Yeah, that's on one of the servers where I work, so I don't have access to it all the time... but there are 7 more cores on that machine, and 32GB memory .

Hey, whats the proper way to resume sieving in ggnfs?

I started the sieve with
Code:
gnfs-lasieve4I13e.exe -a c138.poly -f 9700000 -c 1500000 -o 4788.2383.9.7_to_11.2.output
Then i let it run for about 10000 q's and attempted to resume as follows:

Code:
gnfs-lasieve4I13e.exe -a c138.poly -f 9710145 -c 1489855 -o 4788.2383.9.7_to_11.2.output
Will not overwrite existing file 4788.2383.9.7_to_11.2.output for output; renam
e it, move it away, or use -R option (resume)
So I did
Code:
gnfs-lasieve4I13e.exe -R -a c138.poly -f 9710145 -c 1489855 -o 4788.2383.9.7_to_11.2.output
 Resuming with -f 11196461 -c 3539
So it resumed at 11.2M (basically the end of my range). Whats the proper way to get it to resume? Thanks!

Yes, thats the proper way.

I finished 9.2M - 9.7M (886845 relations)

But that doesnt make sense. I ran through 10000 q's and stopped. It ended at ~9.71M. Then when i restarted using that method it started sieving at 11.2M thereby skipping an entire 1.49M range.

Last fiddled with by antiroach on 2009-05-08 at 13:53 Reason: 10000q's not 11000
