hmmm this remind me of a series of book, " the long earth" by terry pratchett/steven baxter :parralel earth availlable with a small tool. you can reach them by a small piece of technology, but most metal aren't transferable...
resulting on datum ( original) earth -religion country, organisation- to collapse.
