Theoretically yes but if you use standard memory components and you read the configuration from the RAM-information-rom you will get a fair estimate.

A fair estimate of what? What are "standard memory components"?

All I can see above is mostly just the CPU specs and no RAM timing info. How many channels, at what clock speeds, with what delays, over what bus, in SMP or NUMA arrangement etc.? I think that the RAM configuration will likely make a significant proportion of the figures above, and without all those gory details the comparisons won't really be very valid. Only in the very loosest sense can we use those figures as a basis for comparative value assessment, but any individual CPU will be constrained by how you attach memory to it.

Well, as far as I can see there is no special overclocking memory used (perhaps the 980x is an exception). I have no special overclocking memory and I let the BIOS decide what values to pick (spd rom).

This thread should be just a rule of thumb to get a feeling for the performance for Prime95 applications.

Weird.. After 4 threads the estimated time starts get higher !?! I ran it a few times to make sure it wasn't a fluke but pretty consistent.

Yes hyperthreading is not Prime95's friend (the Xeon E5440 has only 4 'real' cores) ;).
