Hoy. I just installed Prime95 mainly because since I upgraded my graphics card to NVIDIA GTX 970, whenever I play a few specific games, at random my computer shuts down.
And, being the absolute ignorant noob that I am, I need your help. Sincerely - A poor sod |

Shutdowns often suggest overheating. Check your CPU temps under load with something like CPUID HWMonitor. |

Was this computer built by you or bought from a store?
In any case, the usual places to start would be to monitor temperatures and fans with a utility that you can find and install. Check http://download.cnet.com/windows/diagnostic-software/ and http://download.cnet.com/s/temperature-monitor/ sections (don't download from random places on the web). Many use for starters, CPU-Z, Core Temp, HWMonitor, Speedfan (in no particular order). If your temperatures are too high under load, seek to correct the problem. You can try someone knowledgeable to reseat the CPU cooler or upgrade it if it is the one that came with the CPU), or you can carefully learn to DIY. If your temperatures are normal, then diagnose the memory with e.g. Memtest86 or Everest or similar. |

![]() ![]() If your PSU (power supply unit) is not man enough for high performance gaming, your GPU could be drawing too much power in certain circumstances. ![]() Last fiddled with by paulunderwood on 2015-10-21 at 22:15 |

I'd try a higher quality PSU first. That off-brand unit might only be good for 200 watts, despite its 630 watt claim. EVGA has some good cheap units out now, like this one.
