I have been P-1 testing for a while now on two computers. Occasionally, when Prime95 sends in the results they have an "E=6" in the message.
(example snippet: M52610771 completed P-1, B1=615000, B2=16297500, E=6, We10: ....) This has happened on both computers. Does this mean an error has occurred while the code was running? If so what sort of error, is there a list of error codes and their meaning? |

It's not an error code, it means your P-1 tests used the Brent-Suyama extension, which essentially throws in some extra primes besides those bounded by B1 and B2 for "free" (i.e. little to no extra work). It's done when enough memory is available, and slightly increases the chances of finding a factor.

Thanks for that, I tried a search of the forum using "E=" without success before posting without result.
Good to know my machines are not generating errors though. :) |

How much memory does it need? Does this occur often? (I have 12 GB, of which generally no more than 2 are used at a time (in the options I have it set to 5-6 GB))

Using 10GiB we get "E=12" almost every time. (The other times are "E=6".)
