Howdy,
Recently I installed Prime95 and chose 8MB for the RAM setting. My computer has 640MB total. I change the RAM setting in Prime95 to 53. When does this take effect? Is it immediate or do I have to restart Prime95? Rockfang |

Hi, Rockfang!
Welcome aboard! The RAM setting has effect only on stage 2 of the P-1-test. This Test is run prior to the LL-Test to find a factor. All other workunits are fully setisfied with the standard 8MB RAM. If you want, you can raise the value, but make sure that other programs have enough RAM left to avoid thrashing on the HDD. According to the Prime95 help, 53MB is disirable for currently assigned DoubleChecks, 185MB for current FirstTimeTests. I don't know at the moment, whether changing RAM settings during stage 2 of P-1 results in a restart of the stage or has no effect on it. You'll surely find more info searching the forum for P-1. Howdy,
Thanks for the replies. I'm on stage 1 of P-1 and it seems to be using 24MB. So far so good. :) Rockfang |
