So... This thread was one of the ones promised on my To Do... thread.
A surprising number of people are dyslexic. Within my own family, most are and were generally told they were stupid (by the teachers and their peers) because they couldn't easily read. New research has suggested that this isn't actually a handicap, but rather an advantage. YMMV, depending on the environment... |

If you haven't already done, read The Lathe of Heaven by Ursula K. Le Guin. Sweet dreams! The word "lathe" is an egregious mistranslation, but hey - sounds better than "potter's wheel" or whatever in the title. |

When I meditate I start with a four-dimensional space. I'm at the origin. X, Y, Z, T. Once that stabilizes, I then bring in other dimensions. Other variables. Other experiments. And then run them. I have found I can actually do this while I am sleeping. Makes problem solving rather interesting... ![]() |

![]() Yes, I have had lucid dreams. Sometimes I realize I'm dreaming because it's a recurring theme I'm familiar with. Sometimes it's because there are elements of the dream that are contrary to facts known to me - such as being in a building I know was demolished years ago. I have even had lucid dreams where I woke up - or thought I woke up, at least momentarily - only to realize I had only dreamt that I had awoken, but was still dreaming. |

When I was in graduate school, an unusual mathematics graduate student was admitted to the program.
He had a slight speech difficulty, and was very poorly socialized. He had dyslexia. As a result, he had as a child been deemed mentally retarded, and at age twelve he was considered to be uneducable. At age 17, he was admitted as a graduate student in mathematics. |
