Default Run to the Top Contest - Closed

Today is 9/9/10 or 2010-09-09. A good day to announce a contest.

We will go till we find a prime, or to n=2 million, or 10/10/10 (2010-10-10 10:10 CEST) whichever comes first.
There will be three winners:
1) The person who finds a prime
2) The person who tests and returns the highest n during the contest
3) The person who has the highest score at the end of the contest
The prizes are "Bragging Rights". There are no other prizes.

The scores are available here.

You must use PRP client 2.4.7 (or an older PRP client if it works) available here. Please do not use another more recent client, as it will probably hang. We will sympathize with you, but you have been warned.

Speaking of warnings, use only machines you own, or have written permision to use. We will not be responsible if you get into trouble. This is always true, but needs to be emphasized now and then. We will not sympathize with you if you break this rule. You must act responsibly.

The primality program LLR is CPU intensive as is PFGW. You may force PRP to use either one, by removing or renaming the other. The newest LLR is available here (use cLLR for Windows). The newest PFGW is available here.
These programs will make your machine run hot. You should probably use a program to monitor temperatures and shut down if your machine gets too hot. You probably should not use a laptop or all-in-one machine. Please feel free to post any other warnings that I have forgotten.

The server is server=sr5test:100:1:www.psp-project.de:7102
You may want to use
Code:
server=sr5test:100:1:www.psp-project.de:7102
server=SR5S:0:1:www.psp-project.de:7103
to have a fallback when we find a prime.

"Let the fun begin!"

Cool! I don't suppose tests submitted to the old, "private beta" server will count for this? (ATM it isn't even running k=254 anyway since it's working on the overall leading edge, and k=254 is way past that at n=~845K.) The reason I ask is that the "private beta" server is on version 3.3.6, as opposed to the contest server which is on 2.4.7. (All of my clients are on later versions compatible with the 3.x server protocol.)

Our first two tests went to HAmsty vebis Thu Sep 9 18:43:46 2010.
Will they be the first two tests completed? Is one of them a prime?

They are the first two test completed, but neither was a prime.

Code:
User ID Total Score Tests Performed PRPs Found Primes Found
HAmsty 7029 2 0 0

For base 5 which one is faster, PFGW or LLR?

Thank you in advance,

I just ran the new PFGW and it's faster than the old one, or at least it seems so. Is it now faster than LLR? I don't know, I'll have to benchmark it. Or you can do it if you want to. Welcome to the contest!

Just wondering why prpclient picks up PFGW instead of LLR.

LLR is only chosen for base 2. With PRPNet 3.4.0 (which has not been released to anyone), the server can tell the client to choose LLR over PFGW.

The latest PFGW and LLR versions (3.3.x and 3.8.x, respectively) are both based on the same underlying gwnum library versions; they are essentially just as fast for all numbers. The reason why PRPnet chooses PFGW is that PFGW was the first to be updated to use the new, faster gwnum; later LLR followed suit, but since they're the same speed there was no point in changing PRPnet again.
