Sure, but not for any mathematical reason. If we flip the sign of Y0 or Y1, then we flip the sign of the root, so if we also flip the signs of the odd-degree coefficients of the algebraic poly then we still have a pair of polynomials with a common root mod N.

In this case all the odd-degree coefficients are zero. So it doesn't matter what sign they are.
But I've just made a copy of the .poly with Y1: -1 and it still tests out OK (msieve rates it the same as the one I posted). So I've learnt a but more about how .polys work. Thanks. Chris PS. All the .polys I post will have been checked by msieve before I post them. So they should be OK. |

It scores the same because, to all intents and purposes, it is the same. If the algebraic poly is f (degree d) and the rational poly is g, then a relation is given by a pair (a,b) for which the algebraic norm b^d*f(a/b) and rational norm b*g(a/b) are both smooth with respect to the chosen bounds. If (a,b) gives a relation with the original polys, then (-a,b) gives the same relation with the "flipped" polys.
