I've just installed the client.
The first time it tried to connect I got an error 1. Guessing that this was a proxy problem, I created the PrimeNet.INI file This now gives error 2252 (not 2250!) Any thoughts? |

Could you post the contents of your primenet.ini file and the same for your prime.log file.
I have to admit that I haven't seen a 2252 error before, but it could have something to do with server availability and use of a primenet.ini file. Could you also add which version of the client you installed, and under which OS. Thanks PM |

Hello PM,
Thanks for the reply. My primenet.ini file at the moment is - ProxyHost=proxy.supermegacorp.com:8080 ProxyPass= ProxyMask=1 However, this isn't what I created. The last 2 lines have been added automatically, and the first line [PrimeNet Proxy] has been removed prime.log file shows this every hour - [Thu Nov 20 10:40:48 2003 - ver 23.7] ERROR: Primenet error 2252 The client is v 23.7.1 It's on Win98 |

This is correct. After the first time PrimeNet is contacted through a secure proxy, the proxy password is encoded and a new parameter 'ProxyMask=1' set. To change the password, simply change the ProxyPass= value, and either delete the ProxyMask text line or set ProxyMask=0.
I see that you are using the proxyserver specified in the readme.txt file. What about trying to use the proxy you have set up for your normal internet connectivity. The primenet.ini file can also be used to specifically point to the primenet server. This is useful for clients that cannot resolv the address. In this case the entry should be: Code:
EntropiaIp=64.66.6.250 PM |

Do you really need a proxy?
How about trying to get rid of the whole proxy business and see if you connect to the primenet server directly. |

Also, try adding the line "Debug=1" to primenet.ini. This will output more information to prime.log

Thanks for all of the replies.
"Prime95" - thanks, I've now set debug on. "Prime Monster" - yes, I can ping it successfully. If I use the proxy settings we have to use here, I get the HTML source for a 'not found' page in the log. If I just put "EntropiaIp=64.66.6.250" in primenet.ini, I get the error below - "garo" - if I don't use any proxy settings I get this in prime.log - [Fri Nov 21 09:58:27 2003 - ver 23.7] host = mersenne.org, port = 80 IP-addr = 64.66.6.250 GET /cgi-bin/pnHttp.exe?ps&32516&.&. HTTP/1.0 Return code is not 200 ERROR: Primenet error 1 |

I'm getting the same error, though slightly different information in the log file:
[Mon Nov 24 13:21:51 2003 - ver 23.7] host = mersenne.org, port = 80 IP-addr = 64.66.6.250 GET /cgi-bin/pnHttp.exe?ps&32516&.&. HTTP/1.0 Error in recv call: 10054 ERROR: Primenet error 2252 |

error 10054:
WSAECONNRESET The virtual circuit was reset by the remote side executing a hard or abortive close. The application should close the socket as it is no longer usable. On a UPD-datagram socket this error would indicate that a previous send operation resulted in an ICMP "Port Unreachable" message. |

I believe the 10054 is "Winsock error 10054/Connection reset by peer". This is a TCP/IP network error which is probably the cause of your 2252 error. It is caused, AFAIK, by the connection between the client and server failing and then being "uncleanly" taken down.
To resolve this you will have to tell a bit more about your installation, configuretion and network setup. I believe George might have to look at the code to find the relevant sequence here. Regards PM |

Well, for my setup, I'm using a WinXP Pro workstation, Prime95 installed as a service and running under the System account. Connect to the net thru a T1 behind a router and a Sonicwall Pro 300 firewall (XP personal firewall is off). Are there any specific ports that need to be open that I'm missing?
