hi, my mother has one of my old PC at his house, but she has no internet connection (she's just playing card on it, hehhe).
I wanna know if im starting the client, is there a way to buffered WorkUnit on a machine ? i was reading the FAQ and i saw: What if my network connection is down? If the NFSNET client can't communicate with the server it will pause and retry again after a while. is there a way to continue to crack or the client will pause and wait? Don't you think that would be a nice opportunity to get more users with offline machines, dont ya think ? later |

Right now there is no offline support but we hope to add that ability in the future. It might be a while before support is available though.

During my daily trip by metro, this morning, maybe, i've found something really easy to more support the offlines machines.
1. Based on the fact, when a user request works, the maximum number of lines is about 275. Can't we increment that number to like 20 000 ? my work station is working at about 2 lines/min. so 24*60 = 1440m in a day * 2 = 2880 lines that could be completed daily. So 2880 * 7 ~ 20 000 lines. So after a week, an offline could drop 20 000 lines, i think the project would go faster with addition like that one. 2. I've a friend with 2 computer (an P4 3.2 and another one at 2.4 GhZ) that could run the client if we add offline support for next version. He's currently studying here in montreal, and his computers are at home with his parents (at about 200 miles away from Montreal). Im sure, if we think, we could find friends/family that could add more power to our projects. But i wonder, is the Initialization needs an online machine ? is there a way to create a new machine to our current acccount, without initilization, or maybe, we could think a way to avoid that step. If we could copy the whole dir, and the clients deal with it, that would be really great. I know a lot of distributed contest already works in tha way. So tell me what do ya think about all this. later |

i was taking a look in the stat. And i was a bit surprised by a machine:
http://www.nfsnet.org/stats2/statsre...M00105A2E9112& This machine is called Offline, is it cause beejaybee is testing an offline version of the client ? if yes, i'd like to have more informations about this feature/developpement. later |

A client for offline computers would be very nice. Could add quite some machines if it existed. Well, maybe in the future

cool,
offlines machines would be a really cool feature. Many computers would be able to run the client + onlines won't lose time during network downtime and stuff like this. |
